NGC 3179 (also UGC 5555, MCG 7-21-36, ZWG 211.37, NPM1G +41.0230 and PGC 30078) is a magnitude +13.1 almost edge-on spiral galaxy located 334 light-years away in the constellation Ursa Major.

The galaxy was discovered by Irish astronomer Bindon Blood Stoney, assistant to William Parsons, using the 'Parsonstown Leviathan' 182.88 cm (72 inch) reflector at Birr Castle on the 25th January 1851. 

Right Ascension 17h 10m 57.2s, Declination +41° 06' 53"
