NGC 5972 (also MCG 3-40-16, UGC 9946 and PGC 55684) is a magnitude +13.6 lenticular galaxy located 410 million light-years away in the constellation Serpens. 

The galaxy was discovered by French astronomer Edouard Stephan using a 80.01 cm (31.5 inch) reflector at the Marseille Observatory on the 29th June 1880.

Right Ascension 15h 38m 54.1s, Declination +17° 01' 34"

Something rich and strange - Hubble eyes NGC 5972

We just got the processed Hubble images for NGC 5972. This is a galaxy with active nucleus, large double radio source, and the most extensive ionised gas we turned up in the Voorwerpje project.
