The meteorite Knyahinya was the most significant impact of a meteoroid in Europe in historical times.
The strike took place in the mountains in the north of present-day Ukraine village located Knyahinya (Transcarpathian Oblast , Raion Velykyi Berezny) on 9 June 1866 between 16.00 and 17.00 hrs. There are numerous witness accounts that were later obtained. The meteor entering the Earth's atmosphere fragmented into over 1,000 pieces.

Contemporary drawing of the meteorite fall at Knyahinya (Ukraine) on June 9, 1866. From the resultiong meteorite shower, many meteorites totalling ~500kg were recovered. The largest stone, which broke into three pieces on impact, weighted 279kg. I is now on display in the Natuiral History Museum in Vienna, Austria.

The Knyahinya (L/LL5) meteorite fell in Zakarpats'ka, Ukraine, on the 9th June, 1866.
A total mass of 500 kg was recovered.
