Castalia meteorite fell at 2:30 p.m., May 14, 1874. Observer heard a rumbling roar 3 miles north of Louisburg, with explosions lasting 4 minutes. Broke into 12 or more pieces. Composed of 15% nickel/iron and 85% stony minerals (bronzite, olivene, anorthite, and enstatite). Described by Genth in 1891 USGS Survey Bulletin. Type: Ordinary chondrite, H5. Weight: 1 lb 1 oz

The Castalia (H5) meteorite fell in North Carolina, USA, on the 14th May, 1874.
A total mass of 7.3 kg was recovered.
