Vigarano fell at 9:30 pm 22 January 1910 in Emilia, Italy. Two stones of 11.5 kg and 4.5 kg were found. This is the type specimen for the CV class.

Carbonaceous chondrites are also known as C chondrites, are some of the the oldest solar material known. They contain carbon, organic compounds, and sometimes water. Some meteoriticists have speculated that water and organic compounds may have first been brought to our planet by C chondrites.
There are several subgroups of C chondrites, including CI, CM, CR, CO, CV, CK, and CH. The second letter typically refers to the first meteorite of that group to be recognised. For example, the "V" in CV chondrites, which contain calcium, aluminum and titanium inclusions, is taken from the Vigarano meteorite.
