Hilmar W. Duerbeck was a German astronomer. He was born in Klarenthal (now Saarbrücken, Germany) and studied astronomy and physics at Bonn University. During most of his career, he did research on cataclysmic variables, contact binaries, and final helium flash objects as well as being an author. Hilmar Duerbeck was married to Waltraut Seitter (January 13, 1930 - November 15, 2007), a fellow astronomer. The asteroid (9327) Duerbeck (1989 SW2) is named after him.
