A clarification is presented of details surrounding the discovery of the so-called Borodino meteorite. It is concluded that, judging by the nature of its composition, this meteorite could not have been a portion of any known fall of meteoritic rain.

The Borodino meteorite fell the day before the Battle of Borodino near the village of Gorki - a sentry picked up the stone and gave it to A.I. Dietrichs - an officer of the 11th Pskov infantry regiment of 7th Infantry Division

The Borodino (H5) meteorite fell in Moskovskaya oblast', Russia, on the 5th September, 1812.
A total mass of 500 g was recovered.

55° 28'N, 35° 52'E
