The second meteorite fall in Sicily, southern Italy, took place at around 01.00 pm on Saturday, July 16, 1955, near Camaro, a village about two miles west of Messina. A man, who was at home at that hour, heard a thud followed immediately by a roar; he went out to inspect the area around his home and noticed that a low pile of rocks split, prepared for some road repairs had been hit by a black stone the size of a pineapple. The stone had not created a crater, but it had penetrated about 20 cm. in the pile of broken stones, where it was found it had divided into three major fragments beside other much smaller fragments. The Messina (L5 chondrite) meteorite fell in Sicilia, Italy, on the 16th July, 1955.
A total mass of 2.41 kg was recovered.

38° 11'N, 15° 34'E
