June 5, 2012 Set up for viewing the transit of Venus in front of the sun

Credit NICENAD

This shows how I will use the safety glass to protect both my eyes and camera lens from the sun. I will be looking at the sun through the protected view finder.

Watching the transit of Venus...from Saturn

Earth may have a front-row seat for this week's Venus transit, but it's the last such show for more than a century. Way back in the outer solar system, however, Venus transits are more frequent, and this year astronomers will try to glimpse the spectacle from Saturn using the Cassini spacecraft.
On 21 December, Saturn, Venus and the sun will be lined up and the Cassini spacecraft will attempt to catch the event.

Venus Is Almost There - Final Sun Approach Captured

The Venus Transit is a few hours away, and the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory is hard at work capturing the moments leading up to the event. This time-lapse view shows the Morning Star's approach.

NASA SOHO - Here comes Venus

While SOHO will not be seeing Venus transiting the Sun, it gives us a very nice view of Venus approaching ingress at approx. 6:04 PM EST on June 5.
