Badr-A was launched on the 16th of July 1990 from a Chinese CZ-2E launcher alongside a Optus-B dummy into a 201 x 984 km orbit inclined at 28.4°.

Badr-1 was a first digital communication satellite launched by Pakistan's SUPARCO in 1990. Badr-1 Communication Satellite was Pakistan's first indigenously developed Digital Communications Experimental satellite. Badr-1 which means "New Moon-1" in Urdu language; the satellite was planned to launch in 1986 from Sonmiani Satellite Launch Centre  but was postponed due to political and economic reasons. The Satellite was finally launched in 1990 from Xichang Satellite Launch Center, China, aboard a Long March 2E.
