Ingawa mwaka huu ulikuwa si wa matumaini kwa wale wanaopenda kuona kupatwa kwa Jua na Mwezi, lakini hawatovunjwa moyo moja kwa moja. Usiku wa mwaka mpya anga itawazawadia zawadi ya kupatwa kwa Mwezi na zawadi kubwa zaidi itatolewa na anga wiki mbili baadae.

Superstition may eclipse New Year celebrations

The partial lunar eclipse may spoil the New Year celebrations. The eclipse will begin at 12.22 am and end at 1.24am on January 1. As superstition calls for staying indoors and not eating or drinking during the eclipse, some may just sit at home welcoming 2010.

On New Year's eve, look skywards for that once-in-a-Blue-Moon feeling. An eclipse is predicted and may block the view for many around the world but astronomers say India will have this rare sighting.
During the partial lunar eclipse from 12.22 am to 1.22 am, only 7% of the moons disc will be covered by the earths shadow and it will be visible from Asia, Africa, Australia and Europe.

Penumbral Lunar Eclipse in Gemini, visible in the Eastern Hemisphere.
Greatest eclipse takes place at 19:23 UT.

A partial eclipse of the Moon takes place on the evening of 31st December.
Lunar eclipses are visible wherever the Moon is above the horizon and this one will be visible from virtually all of Europe and Asia, the western half of Australia and the extreme eastern part of North America.
