Magnitude: 9.6 V

Asteroid (41) Daphne will occult the 9.3 mag star TYC 4922-368-1

On 2017 March 2nd at ~04:06 UT, the 174 km diameter asteroid (41) Daphne will occult a 9.3 mag star in the constellation Leo for observers along a path across Europe, Africa.

On 2016 Jan 17 UT, the 210 km diameter asteroid (41) Daphne will occult a 9.7 mag star in the constellation Taurus for observers along a path across Arabia, N Africa, Europe.

The event is visible from the Russia.

Asteroid (41) Daphne is a large main-belt asteroid. This dark-surfaced body is probably composed of primitive carbonaceous chondrites. It was discovered by H. Goldschmidt on May 22, 1856, and named after Daphne, the nymph in Greek mythology who was turned into a laurel tree. Daphne has been observed to occult stars three times (all in the 1990s). Daphnean lightcurves suggest that the asteroid is irregular in shape.
