SBSS Launch Delayed

The launch of the Space-Based Space Surveillance (SBSS) spacecraft planned for July 8, 2010, has been delayed pending resolution of a test anomaly associated with another Minotaur IV launch vehicle undergoing test in the factory.

New US satellite to monitor debris in Earth orbit

A new U.S. Air Force satellite will provide the first full-time, space-based surveillance of hundreds of satellites and thousands of pieces of debris that could crash into American and allied assets circling the Earth.
If all goes as planned, the $500 million Space-Based Space Surveillance satellite, scheduled for a July 8 launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif., will have an unobstructed, around-the-clock view of the increasingly heavy traffic in Earth orbit - something the Air Force doesn't have now.

The launch window extends from 04:41 to 04:55 GMT.

Problems with government furnished equipment for the Orbital Sciences Minotaur IV launcher will delay liftoff of the first Boeing/Ball Space Based Space Surveillance (SBSS) satellite from Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif. The launch, the first for the Minotaur IV from Vandenberg, had been tentatively set for Oct. 30.

A new Minotaur IV rocket with an experimental U.S. Air Force Space Based Space Surveillance (SBSS) satellite is scheduled to launch from the Space Launch Complex 8 at the Vandenberg Air Force Base, California, at 04:41 GMT, 23rd October, 2009.
