The Pakistan Communication Satellite - PakSat-1R, is due to be launched in space from Chinese satellite launching site located at Xichang city during the second week of current month, depending on weather conditions. It will replace Paksat-1.

To achieve a big success in national space programme, government of Pakistan has decided to approach China for arranging over $200 million financing for the replacement of PAKSAT-1 with a new communication satellite PAKSAT-1R by 2011.
A loan agreement is finalised that would be signed with China soon to make sure availability of required financing for launch of a new communication satellite PAKSAT-1R by 2011.

China will launch a telecommunication satellite PakSat-1R for Pakistan in 2011. Contracts for the satellite deal were sealed on Wednesday in the presence of presidents from both countries. Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari is in Beijing on his first four-day state visit.

Pakistan plans to have a communications satellite by 2011 as part of its National Satellite Development Programme, a top official said today.
The country currently has the leased satellite Paksat-1, and this will hopefully be replaced with the state-of-the-art Paksat-1R communications satellite in three years, said Air Commodore Arshad Hussain Siraj, Secretary of the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO).
