New activity has started at Reventador volcano.
The volcano in Ecuador's Andes erupted Friday, shooting plume of ash nearly two miles into the sky but causing no injuries or damage.
In early March, the number of tectonic earthquakes from Reventador had increased. During 8-22 March, steam-and-ash plumes rising to altitudes of 4 km  a.s.l. were observed sporadically.
The  volcano had been showing increasing signs of activity since January, but this eruption does not pose a threat to any nearby villages.
The volcano erupted in 2002, spreading ash over the capital, Quito, about 65 miles to the east.
