Egypt's Ministry of Antiquities says American archaeologists have discovered a 3000-year-old tomb with beautifully painted walls belonging to a nobleman who guarded the temple of the ancient deity Amun.

Ancient tombs unearthed in Egyptian city of Luxor

Italian archaeologists have unearthed tombs in the southern Egyptian city of Luxor that are more than 3,000 years old.
Egypt's antiquities ministry says the tombs were found under the mortuary temple of the Pharoah Amenhotep II, who reigned from 1427 BC to 1401 BC.
The temple is located on the western bank of the River Nile.
The ministry said remains of wooden sarcophaguses and human bones were found inside the tombs.

Sewage workers find 3 pharaonic coffins

Workers in Abu Yasseen village in Sharqiya Governorate found three pharaonic coffins and other artefacts while digging as part of a sewage project in the village.
Eye witnesses said two of the coffins were smashed. The antiquities were transferred to the governorate capital Zagazig, where they will be examined by experts. Guards imposed security around the coffins and the area where they were found.

Archaeologists say a recently excavated tunnel in southern Egypt was built to connect a 3,300-year-old pharaonic tomb with a secret burial site.
The Egyptian antiquities department said on Wednesday that the ancient 174-meter-long tunnel was left unfinished after Pharaoh Seti I's died.

Mystery of million mummies buried near Snefu's Seila pyramid

Researchers from Brigham Young University, in Utah, are trying to find why a million mummies are buried near Pharaoh Snefru's Seila pyramid.
About 4,600 years ago, Snefru initiated one of the greatest construction projects in human history.
For reasons yet unknown, he decided to build four pyramids scattered at different places across Egypt.
Two were constructed at Dashur (the Red and Bent pyramids), one at Meidum and another at a place called Seila.

A lost ancient Egyptian tomb has been rediscovered by archaeologists in the desert sands south of Cairo.
The 3,300-year-old tomb is believed to belong to a mayor of the ancient capital of Memphis.
It was originally discovered by artefact hunters in the 19th Century, who then lost the tomb's location.

The entrance to Egypt's cave underworld has been sealed shut just two years after its modern day discovery. Access to the tomb leading to these natural caverns, located beneath the famous Pyramids of Giza, is now blocked by a metal gate set in concrete.
The move follows recent work to clear the interior of the tomb known as NC2 or the "Tomb of the Birds", and located in the plateau's north cliff.

A French archaeological team digging at Saqqara has discovered the burial chamber of 6th Dynasty Queen Behenu, wife of either Pepi I or Pepi II. The burial chamber was revealed while the team was cleaning the sand from Behenu's pyramid in the area of el-Shawaf in South Saqqara, west of the pyramid of King Pepi I.

The 4,200-year-old burial chamber of Queen Behenu has been discovered in Saqqara in Giza.

A French archaeological team digging at Saqqara discovered the burial chamber of 6th Dynasty Queen Behenu, wife of either Pepi I or Pepi II. The burial chamber was revealed while the team was cleaning the sand from Behenu's pyramid in the area of el-Shawaf in South Saqqara, west of the pyramid of King Pepi I.
The burial chamber uncovered by the French mission is badly damaged, apart from two inner walls which contain engraved Pyramid Texts. Those texts were widely used in royal tombs carved on walls as well as sarcophagi - during the 5th and 6th Dynasties (circa 2465-2150BC).
