Update: The 38 - 85 metre wide asteroid 2012 DA14 made a close pass, travelling at 5.93 km/second, to the Earth-Moon system on the 16th February, 2012 @ 06:10 UT ±00:01. The asteroid will return on the 15th February, 2013 @ 19:26 UT ±00:45 (Minimum Distance 0.00018 AU) and possibly reach magnitude 11.1 (or brighter).
Update: The 38 - 85 metre wide asteroid 2012 DA14 will make a close pass (0.00023 AU), travelling at 7.82 km/second, to the Earth-Moon system on the 15th February, 2013 @ 19:41 UT ±00:32.

A 150-foot asteroid orbiting Earth called 2012 DA14 will pass so close to Earth it will fly UNDER man-made satellites orbiting our planet. Nasa's Impact Risk report said that the odds of the space rock actually hitting our planet are very low indeed - but on February 15 next year it will pass just 17,000 miles from Earth, closer than 'geostationary' satellites.
