Hottest UK day of 2012 recorded in Suffolk

Parts of the UK are experiencing the hottest day of 2012 so far, with Cavendish in Suffolk reaching 32.3C, the BBC Weather Centre says.
Cambridge has also seen hot weather, reaching 31.5C on Saturday afternoon.

Flood alerts remain in parts of UK

A flood warning is in place for Brough Beck at Catterick, North Yorkshire, with 26 flood alerts across Britain.
Thirteen areas are on flood alert in England and Wales, 11 of which are in south-west England.
The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa) has 13 flood alerts in place across the whole of Scotland, for Sunday into Monday.

Sunny skies 'not too far off' as jet stream shifts

The United Kingdom is expected to get drier and warmer next week, but only after more rain.
There are signs that the jet stream may shift slightly northwards which means it should feel more like summer.

Why, oh why, does it keep raining?

If you want something to blame for the appalling weather, look up as you raise your umbrella and imagine that high above the rain clouds a great river of wind is flowing through the upper atmosphere.
This is the jet stream and its path is the cause of the repeated flooding being suffered during a British summer that has so far been one of the most miserable on record.

Scotland has again broken the record for its highest-ever March temperature.
The mercury reached 22.9C (73.2F) in Aboyne, Aberdeenshire, on Monday, beating the previous record of 22.8C at Fyvie Castle, Aberdeenshire, on Sunday.
