Hungarian astronomers have discovered a new supernova using a robotic telescope at the Baja observatory in southern Hungary, the Hungarian Astronomical Association reported on its website on Thursday.
The 12-member group of astronomers discovered the supernova on a recording made on July 7. The robot telescope was installed in Baja in 2005 and takes photographs at regular intervals.

A magnitude 16.6 Type Ia supernova, 2010gn, was discovered by Vinko et al at the Palomar Transient Factory on the 27th June, 2010, in an anonymous galaxy near NGC 6339 in the constellation Hercules.
The supernova is located 2.4" West and 0.6" South from the center of the galaxy.

Position (2000): RA 17 17 49.9, Dec +40°52'52".0
