Eclipse Dazzles West Indonesia Despite Some Clouds and Rain

The first eclipse of the year - and the longest of this millennium - broke through the clouds in western Indonesia on Friday.
Residents of Aceh's capital, Banda Aceh, gathered in front of the Baiturrahman Grand Mosque to view the partial solar eclipse, while people in and around Bandung flocked to the Bosscha Observatory on the outskirts of the city.

A partial solar eclipse was visible in Hong Kong from 3.33pm to 6.00pm today (January 15), with the maximum eclipse occurring at 4.54pm. The weather was mainly fine during the eclipse. Although the sun was occasionally blocked by clouds, the eclipse was still visible from many places in Hong Kong.

Thousands of people in Africa and Asia viewed an eclipse Friday as the moon crossed the sun's path, blocking everything but a narrow, blazing rim of light.
The path of the eclipse began in Africa - passing through Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Kenya and Somalia before crossing the Indian Ocean, where it reached its peak. The path then continued into Asia, where the eclipse could be seen in Maldives, southern India and parts of Sri Lanka, Myanmar and China.

Ethiopians woke up on Friday to witness one of the longest solar eclipse that travelled across several African countries.
According to the Ethiopian space science association, the solar eclipse has been seen in the capital, Addis Ababa and other three regional states of the country.
The 2010 annular solar eclipse is reported to be the longest to occur since 1992.
